Bio
John is a self taught guitarist and church organist and has been playing and composing for over 40 years.
He has been greatly influenced by The Beatles, the Shadows, The Monkees (not the Arctic variety) and Gordon Lightfoot. The classical composers Dvorak, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and jazz guitarist Ivor Mairants.
Since leaving school the guitar has been John's passion and source of income. Selling, repairing, building, gigging and teaching have all played their part. For most of that time John has been a loner as nearly very band he was in went into meltdown with disturbing alacrity. The common factor was of course John even though he predictably denies all responsibility! A time working for the great jazz guitarist Ivor Mairants proved a turning point changing John from a singer who played a bit to a real guitarist who happend to sing.
On the personal side John is a native of Scotland and is cozzily married with 3 kids and 4 grandchildren.
Ambitions: Through teaching a new generation of guitarists, to see the guitar reinstated to its rightful place as an instrument to be listened to for its own sake and not simply something to hang around the neck of a singer. To write instrumental music that will last and to glorify God through my songs.
This other side of John's musical character can be heard at www.johndavidcoupland.co.uk where all manner of Christian shenanigans can be found. Hymns, short stories and theological ramblings!
